Nail Week: Semilac Gel Nail System Review

WELCOME TO NAIL WEEK!

If there is one thing I am really missing since being in lock down, its got to be my regular visits to the nail salon. I loved going in every few weeks, having a chat, choosing a new nail design and just having that 1 hour out from normal life. However, its been a good thing at the same time because I have had more of a chance to do my own nails. When I was in high school, I was part of a Nail Club. In this club, I got taught everything to do with nails and those skills have stayed with me until now.

Recently, I have been loving doing my own nails at home. This week I am showing you a gel system, gel colours and some tools that are an essential for doing your nails at home!

Today's post is all about a nail system called Semilac. They very kindly sent over their starter kit* for me to have a play with. Spoiler alert - I'm obsessed!

Nails of the Moment #1

Essie Cocktail Bling

I used to always post on my nails, until recently when my nails have just become the least of my priority. Which means, similar to the makeup of the moment posts, I will also be sharing what I have been loving on my nails.

Summer Nails 2015

Summer Nails 2015

Summer Nails 2015

Summer is here and the best thing for me about the change in season is the change in my nail colours. I put away the deep berries and bring out the bright ones, in today's post I am going to give you the low down on my top 5 favourite picks for this year!

Rimmel Wild-er-Ness (£2.99)
Wild-er-Ness from Rimmel is a stunning lavender purple and I adore anything that is purple. This is a colour in-between a pastel and a bright, because it is very subtle. You need two even coats to get the colour in the bottle, since Rimmel have re-branded all their polishes there has been an improvement in the formula. It isn't as thick and the brush doesn't split when you use it.
Essie Resort Fling (£7.99)
I have previously talked about this colour on here already so this will be short and sweet. Out of all the colours mentioned in this post, Resort Fling is by far my favourite. It is a lovely orangey coral colour but isn't blinding that it looks ugly on your fingers. Everything looks good with this colour as well and it screams summer.
BarryM Eat My Dust (£3.99)
The Speedy range from BarryM is a pure stroke of genius and a range that lives by the name 'quick drying'. Eat my Dust is the best colour from the range in my opinion because of its uniqueness. it is a powdery, cornflower blue that has a grey undertone making it flattering to my darker skin tone. It is also a great 'toe nail colour' for the summer.
Maybelline Red Hot Getaway (£4.49)
This is the newest polish in my collection, I picked it up the other week after seeing the words NEW next to it in Superdrug. I haven't red much about this new shade from the range but let me tell you, it is amazing. It can be best described as a muted pink coral and looks perfect with a tan! It is currently on my toes and fingers because I am in love with it that much. These also do actually last for 7 days like it says - highly recommend buying them.
Nails Inc Uptown (£15.00)
Nails Inc have got the gel effect look for half the price thing nailed down. The shade Uptown isn't as bright as the rest of my picks but sometimes a nice nude nail polish is just what you need during the summer months.

These are my top 5 five, what are yours?

NOTD| Essie Resort Fling + Set in Stone

It has been a long time since I have posted NOTD and it's no surprise because I haven't bought any new nail polishes in AGES! It pains me every time I say that, but nothing is screaming at me, and saying BUY ME BUY ME!
Recently, I have been going back to the same duo or the past few months now and that is Essie's Resort Fling and Set in Stone. Both of these together are even better than on their own and there is just something about the brightness of them both that I love love love! It is also a great 'toe nail' colour and is an ideal good with a tan polish.
Resort Fling is the perfect Coral shade and is on the orange side of coral similar to a melon, the only downside to it is that you need three coats so the bottle is finishing quicker than I thought :(

This is definitely my go to nail combo, perfect for the summer! What are your favourites for this time of year?

Spring/Summer Nail Edit '15

Summer Nail Edit

Oh BarryM, stop stealing my heart every so often with a new release. When I heard that they were brining out a range called 'Speedy' and it guaranteed to dry instantly? I was hooked. I waited a little while after they got released to see what other people thought of them, and then afterwards I popped into Superdrug and they were on offer for 2 for £7 - I basically couldn't resist and ended up buying 4, my favourite four shades. The shades I picked up, are ones that I think will be perfect for the spring and summer, they are bold and bright!

Festive Nails #4 - Snowflakes

snowflake nails
snowflake nails

Today's one is a little different! This is the last one in the series and for the month, if you've missed any then feel free to check them out here and I hope you've enjoyed them! So for today's post I cheated a little bit because last Wednesday I actually went for my nails doing at the salon! It was a little treat for my self and my friend Aimee! I went for something simple but pretty! I had white French tip acrylics with glitter on top, and then a small snowflake on the ring fingers and I have never loved my nails so much! Hope you've enjoyed this serious, and let's hope I can keep posting nail posts in the new year!

Diwali Nails| BarryM Rockstar Glitterati

BarryM Rockstar Glitterati

If you saw my post a few days ago then you will have read all about my makeup that I wore for Diwali, if not read it here. So, I thought I would also share with you my nails for the special occasion and of course they had to be glittery, bright and over the top! Just a side note, these are not my real nails they are the ones that I rave about from Primark but just in a plain colour and then I painted over it and they looked amazing...On these nails I used two coats of the BarryM polish and had to leave it to dry in-between but eventually it worked out well!

The best part, is that because these are fake and they have so much glitter on them I won't have to even scrub it off my nails because the nails can be either re-used or binned! Perfecto combo!! This whole collection looks stunning and I would really like to get the others before they take them away....

Have you tried any of the Glitterati Polishes???

The Primark £1 Nails!

The Primark £1 Nails!

I posted this exact picture on my Instagram a few weeks back and my oh my did I get come lovely comments, as well as people at work telling me how lovely these nails are. Many were surprised to know that they are actually fake and not real! I found these super easy to apply and to wear as for me they weren't that long, I was scared to use and them and hoped that they wouldn't pop off..but they managed to stay on my nails for a few days and I am glad I went with this pattern as its perfect for the summer. I would recommend going out and buying a pack, they have such a wide range of choice for you to choose from and are worth it for only £1!

NOTD| BarryM Gelly in Coconut

BarryM Gelly in Coconut
I hope you clicked on this blog post because you wanted to know what shade this beautiful colour of nail polish is! I won't keep you waiting any longer and tell you that it is one of the newer summer gelly's from BarryM in the shade 'Coconut' and by far one of my favourite colours ever from any brand! Its this perfect off white colour that doesn't seem to wash out my skin tone and looks amazing in the day and at night. 2 coats is all it took, and it took me by surprise. This is the perfect all round summer shade.

NOTD| Rimmel London 'Breakfast in Bed'

Rimmel London 'Breakfast in Bed'
Rimmel London by Rita Ora in Breakfast in Bed
My perfect summer nail polish. This is such a gorgeous colour and the picture does not do it justice as in real life it is the most stunning minty blue colour I have in my nail collection. The formula and staying power of Rimmel Polishes are always on point, and this just made me agree with that even more and I want to try more from the Rita Ora range as all the colours look amazing. The name is also uber cute and makes me feel all relaxed when I read it and wear the colour.

NOTD|| Avon Gel Finish Nail Enamel in Lavender Sky

Avon Gel Finish Nail Enamel in Lavender Sky

I get the Avon magazine every two weeks and always stop my self from buying anything as I don't want to spend a fortune on things that I can't really return straight away. One of the things that I didn't hestiate from buying were their new nail polishes called the 'Avon Gel Finish Nail Enamel'
They Claim;
High impact nail colour with a gel like finish without a UV lamp.Base coat, protection, shine, colour and top coat, all in one nail polish.Strengthens nails by up to 42%.Comes off with normal nail vanish remover
Avon Gel Finish Nail Enamel in Lavender Sky

Why Thoughts;
I agree with every single word. This stuff is amazing! As soon as I applied one coat I fell in love, with one coat I achieved the look above! ONE COAT. THAT IS ALL. How amazing is that, the formula is so gel like and glossy and I prefer the formula of this over the BarryM ones because this is so much thinner and applies evenly within one coat. It has also lasted me a whole week, there are a few chips that have started to appear but it hasn't bothered my as much as I thought it would! The colour is just stunning and perfect for this time of year and I think I will buying more from the range because they are great value for money!

They retail at £7 each which is a bit of stretch for me, to be honest...but on offer currently at £3.50 you cannot go wrong at all! I am sure these are new, but don't know as they seem to have been realised before as well as this summer...but no worries still love them!

Nails Of The Week|| Essie Wraps in 'So Haute' ♥

The first nail post of 2014 is here, and this week it is all about the nail wraps. I usually stay away from them because I don't like the faff and if it gets complicated then I loose interest in doing them. These Essie ones are totally different to any of the wraps I have used in the past on myself and other people, you don't have to heat them and then apply you just have to measure, stick, press and file. Easy as pie!
The first thing you need to do is find out which sticker best fits your nail, to make it easier to find this out I cute around the plastic instead of having to guess.

I didn't use them or all or even as many as I thought,as when I filed some off one nail it fit on to another nail and this way I saved on the wraps. And after completing both hands - I just fell in love. Not only was the application really easy but I love the overall finish and design, after realising that the pattern isn't as bright as I thought originally!

New Year's Eve Nails || Nude Sparkle ♥

Seen as thought its the end of year, and new years eve is tomorrow...I decided to add some sparkle onto my nails! If the rest of me is a mess I do not care - as long as my nails look good I am a very happy girl! Instead of just having my stand accent nail or applying glitter all over. I decided to step out of my usual zone and attempted a glitter gradient..and here are the results.
New Year's Eve Nails || Nude Sparkle
I love the way that it has turned out, I used the Colourworks Glitter on top first to build up the gradient and then used the barrym one. Having small and big glitters in this bottle made it so much easier to use and I didn't use any sponges or anything fancy! Easy as pie!

Blogmas Day 12 || Festive Nails #2 BarryM + Maybelline Colour Show ♥

Today I bring you another Festive Nails post, to check out my last one click here. This weeks is a another glittery combo from BarryM and Maybelline! I love the Gelly nail polishes if you can't tell and this combo is one that I am loving lots!! As a base coat I applied two coats of Lychee this is such a great colour and works any time of the year and on top I used one coat on the new Brocades Polish from Maybelline in Knitted Gold - how stunning does this look. I am in love! Thanks to Estee (EssieButton) for this amazing idea!! It looked amazing and I just had to try the two together and I cannot believe my eyes for one minute!!

Nails of the Week; BarryM Gelly || Blackberry ♥

It has been ages since I last showed you what was on my nails, and I will now be changing all of that! I love the pastels and neutrals in the summer, but I must say that I prefer the deep colours of the Autumn/Fall! This past week I have been wearing another BarryM Gelly in Blackberry! When I read the name and saw the colour I knew it didn't match - I think there is some confusion with the packaging but never the less... I still love it!

Just like any other Gelly polish; the formula is very thick so you either do one thick coat or two thin even layers and it gives you the perfect 'gel replica' nails! So glossy after two coats, I didn't feel the need to apply a top coat but I wanted them to last for a long time so I did and I am glad I did as they have lasted a whole week!! I fall in love with BarryM more and more each time I purchase something new.
BarryM Gelly Blackberry

The pictures on the top have been taken at different times of the day, I took the one on the left in this morning with no flash and the one on the right at night with the flash on. The colour is more of a deep, dark blue not a blackberry colour!
BarryM Gelly Blackberry

I may have also purchased a few more other BarryM nail varnishes when I picked this up!

Nails Inc 'Notting Hill Gate' & 'Kensington Caviar Top Coat' ♥

Woah, it seems to be ages since I last wrote nails of the week post! I have been painting my nails weekly and always forget to blog about them, but not to worry I am about to gift you for my mistakes. Today I bring you a duo of polishes I received in my Latest In Beauty - Ultimate Summer Nails Box, I didn't end up using them in summer which is just plain silly! When I did finally get the chance to use them I am never been more impressed. Nails Inc to me is what you call 'high end' you are only able to buy them near me in big department stores and they don't come cheap either. Their polishes are from £8 onwards and the price you are paying is worth it. These aren't the full size bottles, which are much bigger but using the mini ones has made me want to add the full size bottles on to my never ending wish list.
Nails Inc 'Notting Hill Gate' & 'Kensington Caviar Top Coat'
I had to apply 2 even coats of the polish as it was very sheer the first time round, regardless it was just a easy brush to use and the formula is amazing! I waited for them to dry as long as possible to add the glossiest top coat I have ever used in my life. This top coat lives up to the hype it gets on shopping channels, it makes my nails look so glossy and shiny that they look professionally done with gels.
This photo doesn't show you just how bright the colour is, it is eye popping. Looking online for the links to this post it is actually a neon shade, who would have guessed! Pink must be the only summer colour I wear in the winter months, but who cares! It has done so good with not chipping as well.

Nails Of The Week; Maybelline 'Coral Craze' ♥

Maybelline 'Coral Craze'

It has been a while since one of these posts! But I am getting back into the nails of the week posts, this is a nail polish colour from the Maybelline Colour Show range that I bought along with some others that you will see next week in a haul! This is such a gorgeous coral colour that is more on the orange side so it doesn't seem more red and more coral - if that makes sense.
Maybelline 'Coral Craze'

Maybelline 'Coral Craze'

I love the formula of these as well, it seems very watery but when it is on your nails it is much more thicker than you think and 2 even coats give you the colour you want. There are some lovely colours in the range which means that I need to spend some money.
The bottle is also a very cute size and the colour is great for the summer time!

BarryM Gelly 'Lychee' - Review & Swatches ♥

I love buying nail polishes, whatever chance I have I always have to buy one! Today I bring you a review of one of the BarryM Gelly's; when this range came out I was so excited and I am slowly building up a small collection! I started off with buying the Gelly in 'Blueberry' which you can read here. And then bought 'Lychee' because I was really attracted to the colour - I was worried about purchasing it, as I didn't know what it would look like on a dark skin tone ... but I love it!

BarryM Gelly 'Lychee'

I adore bottles that have a cute packaging as it looks great when it is on display in my stand, and this bottle is very sleek. The silver metal lid, is different to all other BarryM polishes they have which gives it this unique look. And I love the fact that they categorize their nail polishes my the bottle loo.

BarryM Gelly 'Lychee'

All the colours in the range are really nice and lovely for the summer colour! This is 'Lychee' my go to nude polish! I think that this is the perfect nude for that natural, no look, it looks subtle and looks great on every skin tone!
BarryM Gelly 'Lychee'

As far as Application goes..I really didn't find it difficult! This is a very thick and cream nail polish which gives you that glossy finish. Now only if it is applied in thin coats, can you get that shiny and glossy finish!I applied one thin coat and waited for that to completely dry before adding the second coat as I didn't want any unevenness.  I also found that I had to really be careful with the amount of polish that I put on my brush, other wise it would all collect on my nail.
BarryM Gelly 'Lychee'

BarryM Gelly 'Lychee'

Overall, I am in love with this polish! It is so glossy and lovely and a perfect warm nude tones colour. I finished it off with a glitter accent..this is The Colour Workshop in 'Silver Streak' it is a very fine glitter and I love it!

Have you got any Gelly polishes? If so what colour's would you recommend!
