Two weekends ago was the most stressful weekend of my life, my mum turned 50 and as a family we took it upon ourselves to host a surprise party. She had absoutely no idea, until the moment she walked through the door and we shouted SURPRISE. The look on her face was priceless, it was such a great night and its crazy that we actually pulled it off.
The most important parts of the night for me, were the decorations because the venue was bare without anything. Then of course my makeup, I obviously needed to look the part as the daugther of the special person and had my makeup planned out for weeks. I managed to do an entire face in the dark with the tiniest mirror in just under 10 minutes, proud doesn't even cut it!
For my base, the main aim was to be very glowy and be all about that dewy look so to start was the amazing primer from The Ordinary (full post), the L'Oreal Pro Glow Foundation was the obvious choice, it has a gorgeous formula and all will be revealed about it very soon. To cover the stress spots and horrendus dark circles, my face was calling for a tube full of Collection conealer. As it was the evening I tried to avoid the heavy contoured look and went for more of a blushed look using the Milani Rose Blush along with Becca's Champagne Pop to give me even more glow and sparkle.
On the eyes there was only one thing I was packing with me, the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette (full post) it's packed full of some gorgeous shades but instead of being daring with the red shades I stuck with the more subtle shades - my outfit was blue so couldn't have anything clashing. Then, for the first time in forever I wore lashes! I''ve recently become a proud member of Nouveau Lashes lash gang, so be expecting a lot of fancy new lash related posts on here - look at me getting all fancy. These particular ones are the strip lashes in glamour 1, the perfect evening lashes and so elegant they are just stunning.
Overall, my look was very subtle yet elegant to give me more of an evening look rather than what I wear on a daily basis. For lips it was a toss up between MAC Twig and Colourpop Viper. Both are my favourite shades at the moment and complimented a brown eye, glowy skin so well!
Now onto the actual evening, it went amazingly well! We're all still in shock that people came, everything worked out and that no spilled the secret to my mum. I arrived at the venue a few hours earlier to decorate and make it look a lot more glam, with the help of my best friend Aamira, in the photo above, we got the venue looking up to scratch. To keep it to a low budget, I found everything on the likes of Ebay, Amazon, Hobby Craft, Etsy and The Range which is my new favourie place! The theme was gold, from balloons to confetti I wanted everything to coordinate and match.
This also included a great deal of DIY'S, the best project was the photobooth frame which went down a real treat with all the children. I bought a foam board from Hobby Craft and cut it into a polaroid style shape, to then spray paint it gold. But this still looked boring, so I used some gold glitter foam sheets to add lettering on to the bottom and it made all the difference. At the venue, we had to cover all the tables with cloths, confetti and food to keep everyone entertained. The riskest part was hanging up balloons on to the ceiling, people were on chairs, each other and at awful heights to get them hanging down. The risks involved when you do any sort of DIY is scary, you have to be really careful. I didn't want anyone injuring themselves a few hours before the party, for personal injuries there is always lawyers such as Slater & Gordon Personal Injury who specialise in claims for personal injuries and so much more.
After months of planning, hours of stressing and using a washing up sponge to apply my foundation because I forgot my beauty blender (yes it did work but never again) it was a great night! Wish I could do it all over again...p.s who said glasses wearers can't wear false lashes?!
